Owner of Foam-It Insulation Says Scaffold Law Hinders Ability to Grow

In today’s Albany Business Review, Krystle Morey writes about the impacts of the Scaffold Law on Binghamton small business owner Jonny Norton.

Jonny Norton says his company lost its insurance provider because of New York’s Scaffold Law.

Norton is the owner of FOAM IT Insulation, a residential foam insulation contractor and window installer in Binghamton, NY. He was among several business executives who spoke out against New York regulations during Wednesday’s Small Business Lobby Day in Albany.

One of the biggest concerns raised was the Scaffold Law, which holds both contractors and property owners liable in the event of an injury and puts them at risk of being sued, regardless whether the injured worker is at fault. New York is the only state with such a law on the books.

Norton says state labor regulations and the high insurance premiums are squeezing FOAM IT financially.
